First Zika case in the Bahamas

The Bahamian Authorities are reporting the first case of Zika Vius (ZIKAV) in the archipelago.

According to Bahamas Health Minister Dr. Michael Perry, a New Providence resident contracted the Zika Virus while traveling to Jamaica.

Zika, a mosquito-borne virus, has been spreading across the Americas since last year. The Zika Virus causes mild illness in most people, but can lead to severe brain-related birth defects (Encephalitis) if women are infected during pregnancy.
